Funder Spotlight: The Jays Care Foundation

The funding provided by Jays Care enables us to deliver 20 programs across the GTA with a special focus on Indigenous students in 5 of those programs. L2L is trying to help close the achievement gap for aboriginal students while keeping in mind the delicate balance in the relationship between tutor and tutee, building on traits like empathy, leadership and mentoring

We're thrilled to announce... L2L took our first public field trip – to the Skydome to see a baseball game! Through our funding partnership with The Jays Care Foundation, L2L received a generous invitation to see the Blue Jays play the Yankees at the Community Clubhouse. The day was an overwhelming success.

29 secondary students from a unique leadership program at Marc Garneau CI, a high-school near Flemingdon Park, were rewarded with an unforgettable outing.

Funding from The Jays Care Foundation helps us engage, empower and educate students that need us. We look forward to many more initiatives that will help bring our Indigenous students to the forefront of education reform.

News and Events

L2L hosted our first ever Founders Celebration on November 5th in honour of Barry Wansbrough & Michaele Robertson. Long-time L2L advocate Robin Campbell made a moving speech amidst the out-pouring of good-will and support.

Also in November, L2L trainers held their first ever fundraising event. Lots of familiar faces came out to the beautiful Koerner Hall for a night of toe-tapping, finger-snapping, sweet, soulful sounds of the 60s with UNCOVERED: Simon & Garfunkel.

The Retired Teachers of Ontario (RTO) has been one of our newest supporters through their District 23 (North York) branch.  Past President Courtney Doldron and 1st VP Jan Siegel championed L2L as the 'Service to Others' project, with the help of L2L trainers Mary Valtellini and Gerard MacNeil.

Upcoming Events

Thanks to OTF support, L2L is holding our 2nd multi-school Leadership Conference, with tutors from seven elementary schools in the west-end, at Don Bosco Catholic Secondary School. We’re making memories for over 120 students with a day packed full of exciting, encouraging and engaging leadership activities.

🎬 We're ramping up for our date with Oscar on Saturday, February 27th at our signature annual fundraising event. Please join us at the TIFF Bell Lighbtbox for "A Night at the Movies" and after the private screening, stay for the party! For info on how to get your tickets or be a sponsor, go here  🎥
